FINAL

Progress April 16-

First Tight Mockup (shown as spreads plus covers)

April 12-

Blocked in Text and Color design tests.

Progress April 11-

I have made changes to pages 4 and 5 and I have been blocking in the text. I don't want to just have blocks of text- well, meaning I organized what pages would have which text.

Progress April 10-

I switched my color scheme and I decided to nix the illustrative qualities being the predominant part of the design. I need to focus more on the type.

Bipolar TEXT April 6-

Our minds are designed to take in information and generalize it in the compartments of our mind. We think 1,000,000 different thoughts every day, and it is hard to keep everything in the forefront of our mind. Our brain's pruning process takes those thoughts and creates neural connections, organizing by linking them together or discarding them completely. Those connections become stronger the more we generalize our ideas and beliefs. The path our mind takes to get to that generalization gets smaller according to the strength of these neural connections. Our neural pathways serve as a map for everything we do.

With Bipolar Disorder these connections are disrupted. Bipolar minds' neurons go haywire and create their own pathways which are impossible to navigate. People with bipolar disorder struggle with confusing signals and in turn have abnormal thoughts and behaviors including cognitive language problems and racing thoughts and even hallucinations. Instead of neat rows of filing cabinets, thoughts are lying on the floor and carelessly strewn across our mind. Instead of large roads leading in clear definite directions, there are multiple paths leading in various directions that keep appearing with no signs or road markers. (Helen M. Farrell)
Life is split between two different realities, elation, and depression.
There are different types of bipolar, but the two main types (Type I and Type II) live the two different extremes of mania and depression.
Type One's extreme highs are known as manic episodes and range from feeling irritable to invincible. The changes in mood are more frequent and can change in a day or a few days at a time. Symptoms of these episodes include spontaneous decisions, racing thoughts, slurred speech, and overwhelming confidence. This can be problematic and may lead to very risky behavior, debt, and if not treated people can harm themselves or others.
Type Two's extreme lows result in a long deep depressive state. These changes in moods happen less frequently last from days to weeks at a time. Symptoms include loss of interest in hobbies, fatigue, feelings of hopelessness and suicidal thoughts. When left untreated these depressive states result in anxiety, panic attacks, paranoia, hallucinations, and suicide.

Although bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition, you can manage your mood swings and other symptoms by following a treatment plan. In most cases, bipolar disorder is treated with medications and psychological counseling.
